The Bruegel Seminars · 2018
are comprised of seventeen artworks based in two series. Two mixed process photographs of a set-up (shot in our backyard) provided the sources for the two series.
The energetics of the Neverlandish schools of art, principally represented by the Family Bruegel, as well as the proto-surrealism on offer by the Bruegels and Hieronymus Bosch is the principal historical influence on my
own art. Energetics is how I describe the ways elements within an image move the eye and sensemaking to recognize how elements are either animated or aimed to be animated. Animated, for me, carries a double meaning because it connotes motion, and itself is related to anima, a subtle term for the receiving soul.
The artist’s proofs for the seminars will do duty sometime in 2012 when the two series are, hopefully, exhibited for the first time.
